1) New York City was the first capital city in the United States after the Constitution was ratified in 1788. In 1789, George Washington was inaugurated as the first president of the country in Federal Hall, located on Wall Street.
2) The New York Post was founded in 1801 as the “New York Evening Post,” a Federalist newspaper, by Alexander Hamilton, an author of the Federalist papers and the premier secretary of the Treasury.
3) The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the citizens of the USA to honour the nation’s enduring dedication to democracy and freedom, as well as the alliance formed between the two nations during the American Revolution. The statue was erected in 1886 at Bedloe’s Island (later renamed Liberty Island) in New York Harbor. The statue served as a welcome symbol for all the immigrants who came to the United States until 1924.
4) There are approximately 660 miles of track connecting 468 subway stations in historic New York City.In the year 2011, more than 1.6 billion people used the subway.
